JAMA1CA2008 Wins the FTP $1 Million Guarantee
Now that the online poker world has returned from Paradise Island, it was time to get back down to business. The players turned out full force yesterday for the Sunday majors and many had more than their own personal profit on their mind. A number of players pledged a percentage of their Sunday winnings towards relief for the Haiti earthquake victims. One such example is Kevin “kice32” Iacfano, whose 5th place finish in the Full Tilt Poker $1 Million Guarantee meant $2,650 was going towards aid for those affected by the natural disaster.
Coach6999 and BBOY3110 Win Big on Record Day
On the last Sunday of 2009 one poker room saw its number of players hit record highs while another saw its Sunday schedule suspended after the server crashed. PokerStars hosted its latest world record-breaking tournament and the field of 149,196 players shattered the previous record of over 65,000. The number of players in the tournament was larger than the population of US cities like Joliet, Illinois, Pasadena, California and Kansas City, Kansas. Each player ponied up a dollar to take part in the event, which boasted a guaranteed prize pool of $300,000. Just about six hours after the tournament began “oskar69” claimed the championship title and a first place prize of $50,000.
YrrsiNN and hassan77 Net Big Wins
The holiday season is kicking into gear and as such, it is only fitting that poker players got into the giving spirit. Two three-way chops in the PokerStars Sunday Million and Full Tilt Poker $1 Million Guarantee ensured that the wealth was spread around with six different players walking away with six figure scores to their credit. Throw in the results of the Sunday Brawl and Warm-Up and there were nine different people who had $100,000+ days yesterday not to mention several chops in most every major tournament.
Mark “newhizzle” Newhouse Owns Sunday Million
This week’s Sunday Million was a blast from the past with not one, but two online poker pros who first burst on the scene a couple of years ago. Team PokerStars Pro Hevad “RaiNKHaN” Khan may have calmed down when it comes to his behavior at live poker tournaments, but he gave the rail a little glimpse of the old-school RaiNKHaN. Check out the chat box in the screen shot of the final table and you’ll notice that Khan was more than a little happy to be there.
Caio_pimenta, WooohSaaah Big Sunday Winners
This weekend may have been about giving thanks and sharing what we have with others, but those sentiments did not extend to the poker tables during this week’s Sunday Majors. There was very little sharing with neither the Sunday Million nor the Full Tilt $750,000 Guarantee ending in a chop. The Million ended with an outright win by Brazilian player Caio Cesar “caio_pimenta” Pimenta worth almost $260,000. He managed to defeat a final table line-up that featured Team PokerStars Pro Johnny Lodden, who told the table if he won the tournament he was going to take the winings and go play Isildur1. Lodden and the mystery Swede will have to spar another time though, as the Norwegian pro busted out in 5th place. The winner of the $750,000 Guarantee, meanwhile, went to WooohSaaah, who netted more than $156,000 for the win.
